This Privacy Policy describes how Scootering Pty Ltd (ABN 12 345 678 901) (“Scootering”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores and discloses your personal information when you visit scootering.com.au, make a booking, or otherwise interact with us. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. Information we collect

We collect personal information necessary to provide our hire services, including:

• Identity & contact: name, date of birth, email, phone, address, emergency contact.
• Licence details: driver licence number, state, class, expiry and photos of your licence, required to verify eligibility to ride.
• Booking & rental: pickup/return depots and dates, vehicle assigned, odometer, fuel, inspection notes, signatures.
• Payment: billing details and tokenised card information processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
• Device & usage: IP address, browser, device identifiers, pages viewed, and cookie data when you use the Site.
• Support & communications: records of emails, SMS and calls with our team.
• Incidents & infringements: accident reports, damage photos, police and insurance references, traffic infringement notices.

3. How we collect it

We collect information directly from you when you register, book, check out a vehicle, or contact us; automatically via cookies and server logs when you use the Site; and occasionally from third parties such as payment processors, insurers, or law enforcement in connection with an incident or infringement.

4. Why we use it

• To process bookings, take payment, hold and release bonds, and issue tax invoices.
• To verify your identity, age and licence before handing over a vehicle.
• To communicate with you about your booking (confirmations, reminders, returns).
• To manage incidents, damage claims, infringements and recoveries.
• To meet our legal, tax and insurance obligations.
• With your consent, to send marketing about offers, new fleet and promotions — you can opt out at any time.

5. Disclosure

We only disclose personal information where necessary to run our business or where required by law, including to:

• Stripe (payment processing and bond authorisations);
• Twilio and our email provider (booking notifications);
• Our hosting and cloud storage providers;
• Insurers and assessors in the event of damage, theft or accident;
• State transport authorities where infringements must be nominated;
• Police or regulators in response to a lawful request.

We do not sell your personal information. Some of our providers may store data outside Australia (including the United States and European Union); we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it consistently with the APPs.

6. Cookies & analytics

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your booking progress, and measure site performance. You can disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the booking flow may not function.

7. Security & retention

We hold personal information in access-controlled systems with encryption in transit and at rest for sensitive fields. We retain rental, financial and incident records for as long as required by Australian tax, consumer and transport laws (generally seven years), and delete or de-identify information when no longer needed.

8. Access, correction & complaints

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by contacting our Privacy Officer above. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

9. Children

Our services are not intended for people under the minimum licensing age for the vehicle categories we hire. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors outside of a parent- or guardian-supervised booking.
